II. O Mother meek

Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38

O Mother meek, what trust lay in your heart

When to the angel you gave firm reply?

So many doubts to tear a will apart!

None shook you. You sought only the Most High.

No fear of future pain turned you astray,

Nor troubled wonder at angelic nod.

You knew that Love Divine you must obey,

And of yourself you thought not, but of God.

And so you asked one question, one alone,

Before consenting to the Most High’s plan.

For, consecrated to Him, full His own,

You’d faith He’d never ask you to know man.

His faithfulness you trusted, and His power.

Pray help me do the same in my dark hour.
