For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. -Matthew 16:25
Fight now, O Heart, your Lord and God to know!
For Pride resists with strength and arms secure.
The battle rages; quaking with each blow,
That worse strikes are to come I am assured.
My pride, alert to peril most acute,
Must die or else must slay my burgeoning peace;
Repelling heart’s attempts to force it mute,
It swears that its dominion shall not cease.
Yet trust of Him runs deeper than my heart—
It touches the foundation of my soul;
And though my soul does also sting and smart,
It waits for Him to stem war’s rising toll.
‘Til then, I shall remain a battlefield,
For neither Pride nor Heart consents to yield.
