VI. What lost, by death to self?

“I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” -John 6:33

What lost, by death to self? By choosing Him?

Security, stagnation, stale conceit.

The world assures existence deathly dim;

Christ gives the promise grand of piercèd feet.

Of piercèd feet, and journeys deep and far,

Adventure true to try me, me to shape,

And Love that will sustain through darkest war,

Through battles perilous and wounds that gape.

The injuries be only to my pride,

That part of me that daily does me ill,

That, once vainglory fully now has died,

My truest self may live and love at will.

Now trust Him, let Him slay that dragon, Sin;

Though victory be His, ‘tis I that win.
