XII. When heart of mine His love did first accept

[Jesus] answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority.But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” -Acts 1:7-8

When heart of mine His love did first accept,

Strong Life fell on one sickened, pale as ash.

Awaking in my soul, a Dove which slept

With blessèd beak did vain existence slash.

I learned as life of old to death was bled,

That life until that day had been but farce;

As regal bird the curtain ripped and shred,

My life as actor was revealéd harsh.

For what can be more harsh than to believe

That what is false be truly what is real?

A mercy, yes, that, forced now to conceive

The Truth, I should ashamed and foolish feel.

When stage it tore with beak as sharp as knife,

His Spirit taught that Love be truly Life.
