XVI. What blessèd grace, to view the world anew!

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” -John 4 :10

What blessèd grace, to view the world anew!

This peace profound, how furtively it fell!

Though promised, unexpected: joy most true,

And never merited, I know that well.

A wretched soul, I only sought Thy care

Once I had tried all else, and ended torn:

I who had known Thee God, yet did not dare

To trust Thee with my life; I for Thee born!

At last I sought Thy peace; Thy call I’d heard.

So weak in faith, I never thought to find

A love so personal, a living Word

To strengthen me in falls and heal my mind.

How is it I, the frailest of weak things,

Could matter so to Thee, Great King of Kings?
