XXII. At times You are so near my heart could burst

I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal (but the sleek and the strong I will destroy), shepherding them rightly. -Ezekiel 34:15-16

At times You are so near my heart could burst.

Your love is palpable; tears fill my eyes.

The Pearl of Price is found; all else feels cursed.

The empty world, ‘tis easy to despise.

More often, from your mercy I feel wrenched,

And sorrow that I lack a worldly home.

Anew in prideful fear of failure drenched,

I fear that I must ever rootless roam.

Yet You have never turned from me Your face

When all felt black, as though You did retreat.

When’er I teeter, then Your blessed grace

Reminds me that my life has purpose sweet.

So have You promised. Truth a promise keeps.

You loved me into life. Could such love sleep?
